Waterless Lithography-The Basics

Wednesday Morning Classes running over 5 weeks from 30 October to 27 November.

This 5 week course is a great introduction to waterless lithography. This printmaking technique, which was developed by Nik Semenoff, is a quicker, easier and safer alternative to traditional lithography. Using recycled aluminium offset plates or standard aluminium plates, a silicone mixture is applied to the surface to repel ink instead of water. Once the silicone mixture is cured on the plate and the image is removed, the plate is inked up with relief ink using a hard rubber brayer and printed on an etching press.

Explore ways to create images using a range of readily available materials including sharpie pens, various crayons, ballpoint pens, gouche, omnichrom pencils and more. Wash effects can be created using a copier toner mixture. All materials will be supplied.

Materials Fee: $30 will paid in the first lesson.

Bring: Sketches and ideas as well as a sketch book, pencils and eraser. Also bring an apron and wear covered shoes. 10x15cm plates will be used during this course.
