"Use what you have. Have what you love." – Jane collins, Artist.
I was born in Newcastle in 1970 and have lived most of my life here. As a student at Warners Bay High School I was selected for the ArtExpress exhibition. This inspired me to complete a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts) at the University of Newcastle in 1991, followed by a Post Graduate Diploma in Librarianship in 1992. Working part-time in a library has allowed me to engage with art and also support myself.
As well as gaining my BAVA from the University of Newcastle I have done several short courses in printmaking with the Newcastle Art School at Hunter Street TAFE under the direction of Mandy Davies. A class at TAFE in 2012 has inspired me to further progress with painting.
Since 2002 I have mainly worked with printmaking, which I love, and have been exhibiting with the Newcastle Printmakers Workshop since 2003, including the annual mini-print exhibition and various other shows. I am currently planning a solo exhibition of my prints and paintings. I am involved with the Renew Newcastle project, selling my work at the shop Make Space.
I work with a variety of techniques including Drypoint, Collograph, Silk Screen and Collage. The themes I lean towards are water scenes, street scenes and interiors. Colour, pattern and drawing are important aspects of my work.
